A021 The Passenger in the Car Once upon a time, a man who lived in Spartanburg was driving along the road. As he was driving, he saw a young woman standing along the road. He decided to stop the car. And then, he asked her, gExcuse me, where are you going?h gI need to go to my brotherfs house three miles up the road.h So he said, gSureh and invited her into the car. She insisted for some reason on sitting in the back seat. While he drove the car, as they drove, they passed beautiful trees, and old houses. They drove. It seemed for a long time. And then, they came to a house on the top of a hill. She said, gOver there! Thatfs where I need to go.h So quite dutifully, he drove the car up to the old house. But, when he turned around, there was no one in the back seat. gWhere did she go?h He got out of the car and began to look. But he couldnft find her anywhere. He looked under the car, he looked around the car, he looked down the hill. So he decided to go up to the house that sat on the hill. When he got up to the house, he rang the doorbell, and a man opened the door. He said, gExcuse me, I...I picked up this woman and she said she needed to get to this house right up the hill. And for some reason I canft find her. Did you see her?h The man in the doorway smiled. He said, gYoufve picked up my sister.h gYour sister, yes. She said she wanted to see her brother.h The man smiled again. gThat was the ghost of my sister. She died twenty years ago.h
