O006 Women Collecting Art As an Investment Ok, I would like to tell the story about my mother, um, when she came out to live in New Zealand. And she came out with her parents after the war, and they were, she grew up in England. And my grandfather decided that he would like to sell his business and come out and live in New Zealand. Much to the surprise of my grandmother, her at time was about forty years of age. My mother was about twenty, so they sit sail, um some, a few months later sold everything up and came out on this major journey to New Zealand with they have never been before. And didnft know anybody, and um so they they came out on um a boat called the gAuthenich which was on her maiden voyage to New Zealand, and um while they were on board, um they meet people who were coming back from India or places off to the war and make life long friends during that time. and when they and um and also one of the people who was on board, um was um, a sea comer, a captain, who had been the captain of the royal navy, and had been stationed in Shanghai and Singapore, and he was being repositioned to New Zealand as a retirement or semi-retirement. And um the the story was that some years later, my, my grandfather whom I never met who died at sea in in my grandmother re-married. And she married this man. But in the interim, they arrived to New Zealand, and there was um another man on board who um became um, he knew my father. And he said to my mother, gI will introduce you to two young bachelors who have just come back from the war.h And um so my mother being meet my father, some, some months later. And while they were um um courting, my grandparents decided that they wanted to build a house, and the, one of the gentlemen who had been on board the boat said to them, gWell, I know a builder who is a very good builder and I think um he should, you know, give you some ideas about building your house.h So, um my grandparents said about building a house and they went this builder and at the time, this is probably a year or so later, my mother and father had got engaged and they had got married. And they were living underneath um this house with the builder. And, and the builder turned out to be um the uncle of my husband, some forty, thir, forty years later. So, thatfs my story.
